Cleaning Instructions

The following instructions include Porcelain, HPL and Remarkaboard® products:

Porcelain Markerboard
Daily Care & Maintenance

(The same procedure is used to clean both chalkboards and markerboards.)
  1. For the initial cleaning, wipe your board with a clean cloth moistened by a liquid cleanser.
  2. Rinse with clear water.  This step is simple but very important.
  3. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
  4. If your board is used daily, the cleaning should be performed at least 2 to 3 times a week.
  5. More thorough cleaning may be required if writing is left on the board for more than 2 days.
  6. Regarding Markerboards only, allow marker to dry 8-10 seconds before erasing.  If erased while still damp, it may smear or “ghost”.
  7. DO NOT use any organic cleaners (orange, lime) as it causes erasability issues.

REMOVING PERMANENT MARKER
  1. Moisten a clean, dry cloth with isopropyl alcohol.  Use less alcohol for chalkboards.
  2. Wipe the board in a circular motion to loosen marker residue.
  3. Rinse with clear water.
  4. Dry the board with a clean cloth.
  5. Repeat these steps as often as necessary to remove all residues.

REMOVING CRAYON AND TAPE
(The same procedure is used to remove both
crayon and tape.)

  1. Dampen a clean, dry cloth with water.
  2. Sprinkle a small amount of non-abrasive cleanser, such as SoftScrub without bleach, onto the cloth. For best results, follow non-abrasive cleaner manufacturer’s instructions found on the product label.
  3. Begin cleaning a small, manageable area using a back and forth horizontal motion.
  4. Use normal pressure as if you were cleaning a window.  Wipe off all residues with a dry cloth.
  5. Rinse well with clear water. Please note that the rinsing and drying steps are very important.
  6. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
  7. Follow the same procedure for the remainder of the board.

HPL (High Pressure Laminate) Markerboard
Care & Maintenance

  • For water-based markers, use a dampened cloth (with water) to clean board.
  • Wipe board with a dry cloth until surface is dry.
  • For solvent based markers, use a solvent wet soft cloth.
Note: Do NOT use chemical cleaners other than those recommended by marker manufacturer.
  • Daily cleaning of board with a dry soft cloth is recommended.
  • Weekly cleaning of the board with a non-streak glass cleaner is recommended.  Wipe board with a dry cloth to assure there is no residue left on board surface.
  • Do Not Use Abrasive Cleaners or Products.

Remarkaboard® Markerboard
Care & Maintenance

This unit is not recommended for use on damp walls or in high moisture areas.

IMPORTANT: Do not use this board until you have read these instructions.

Cleaning: It is necessary to clean your Remarkaboard® prior to use.  Clean board thoroughly with Marsh Mar-Kleen® Cleaner (a glass cleaner may also be used).  Simply spray the surface with the cleaner and wipe with a clean soft cloth.   It is suggested that the the board be periodically cleaned.  For best results, Marsh Pro-Rite® Markers should be used on the Remarkaboard®.

Caution: It is advisable to erase board after each day’s use.  If ink is left on the board for several days, the ink will set and it may be difficult to erase.  If there is any ink on the board that will not erase, the cleaning procedures outlined above will remove the ink.
